The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Chief (Barr.) Marie Olabisi Idaomi, Ph.D. has announced that Edo Women will join women globally to celebrate International Family Day. It’s an annual global event that showcases, empowers, and celebrates families for Sustainable Development on May 15th every year, recognized by the United Nations.
The purpose of celebrating this event is to promote family well-being and unity, raise awareness about family-related issues, and strengthen family bonds. Therefore, the day highlights the importance of families in society, addressing challenges they face, and promoting supportive policies.
Idaomi, the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs Commissioner, has pinpointed the importance of family-centric policies in driving social and economic progress. She listed various initiatives aimed to be achieved this year, including supporting family welfare and well-being, promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, enhancing access to education and healthcare, fostering economic resilience and entrepreneurship, and getting involved as a foster parent.
The Ministry of Women Affairs, Edo State, reaffirms its commitment to strengthening family units and promoting sustainable development for societal improvement. This year’s theme, “Family-Oriented Policies for Sustainable Development,” resonates deeply with the ministry’s mission.
In her statement, Idaomi said, “The family is the bedrock of our society. As we celebrate International Family Day, let us recommit to supporting and empowering families. Together, we can create a more just, equitable, and prosperous society for all.”
